Is urethane cement flooring right for my shop or warehouse?
Urethane cement flooring is a seamless, heavy-duty floor we install in Gilroy, CA for shops, warehouses and other hard-working rooms that take impact, scraping and chemical spills, so you end up with one tough surface instead of a coating that keeps wearing through.
Most people call us when a painted or epoxy floor has started chipping under carts, forklifts or dropped tools, or when spills keep eating into it. Urethane cement is a much tougher floor than a thin coating, but it still sits on your slab, so the slab decides a lot. The price moves with the size of the room, how much prep the concrete needs, whether we have to strip an old coating first, and the texture and topcoat you pick. The schedule turns on whether the slab is ready and how long you can keep the room out of use while the floor cures. I'll see all of that on the visit, and the written estimate spells out each step so you know what you're paying for.
How do you know your floor needs something tougher?
Coating chipping in traffic lanes
If the coating is flaking off where carts, pallet jacks or forklifts run, it usually wasn't built for that kind of pounding or it wasn't bonded well to begin with. The longer it goes, the more bare concrete gets chewed up, and the more we have to grind and patch before a new floor goes down.
Spills leaving dull, etched patches
Dull, eaten-looking spots where oils, cleaners or chemicals land mean the surface isn't holding up to what gets spilled on it. Left alone, the liquid works into the concrete, and that can make it harder for the next floor to stick.
Grime packed into seams
Tile, sheet flooring or a cracked old coating gives dirt and liquid lines to collect in, which makes the floor a chore to clean. Every seam is also a spot where water can get underneath and start lifting the floor.
How we install urethane cement flooring
Before anything else, I ask how the room is used, how much grip you need underfoot and whether sunlight hits the floor, because those answers decide the texture and the topcoat. Then our crew preps the slab by blasting, which roughs up the top of the concrete like coarse sandpaper so the new floor has something to grab onto. While the concrete is bare, I'll point out the cracks and joints that are likely to show through the finished floor, so nobody's surprised later. After that we put down the urethane cement, add the topcoat you picked and clean up.
Not every room needs a floor this heavy. If yours is a showroom, office or living space that doesn't see forklifts or harsh spills, polished concrete flooring gives you a hard, good-looking surface from the slab itself, and stained concrete flooring adds color to the concrete you already have. I'll tell you on the visit which one fits the way you use the room.
Smooth, easy-mop finish
This suits dry rooms where carts and pallet jacks roll all day and the floor gets mopped often, because a smoother surface rolls easy and wipes clean fast. It gives less grip, so we don't recommend it where water or grease sits on the floor.
Textured, high-grip finish
This suits wash-down areas, food prep rooms and shop floors where oil or water ends up underfoot, because the rougher surface gives boots something to hold. It takes a bit more scrubbing to keep clean, which is a fair trade where a slip is the bigger worry.

I look over the concrete, ask about old flooring and any damp spots, and walk you through your options. You get a written estimate with every step spelled out, so you can see where the money goes before you decide.
Prep and lay the floor
Our crew blasts the slab and puts down the new surface, with me or our lead installer on site. Plan to keep the room clear while we work and while the floor cures.
Walk the finished floor
We walk the job with you before we pack up, so you can point out anything that isn't right. I'll also tell you when the room can take feet, carts and full use again.
Why Gilroy owners call us for urethane cement floors
I walk your floor myself
I come out for the estimate, look at the slab and walk it with you, and our own crew does the work with me or our lead installer on site. The person who saw your cracks and damp spots is the one overseeing the prep.
In business since 2013
We've been putting down concrete floors since 2013, and before that I learned the trade working for an installer here in the valley. Most of what goes wrong with this kind of floor shows up in the slab first, and that's where we look.
Licensed and insured for heavy work
We're licensed and insured. On a job where blasting, heavy equipment and strong materials are part of the work, that's the first thing to check with any crew.
A straight answer on your slab
If your slab isn't ready for this floor yet, I'll tell you, and if a lighter floor fits your room better, I'll say that too. Our work is backed by our satisfaction guarantee.
If you're weighing this floor for a shop, warehouse or other hard-working room, tell us about the space and I'll come take a look.
Urethane cement floors and slab prep around Gilroy
California's contractor rules list a D-12 Synthetic Products class whose work includes resin and epoxy application, so it's fair to ask any installer which state license class they hold for this floor, and you can read what that class covers on the state contractors board's class page. One maker also says its urethane cement should only be installed by trained people with experience in polyurethane concrete flooring, so ask any crew how many of these floors they've put in. I'd rather you ask me those questions than not ask anyone.
Around Gilroy we see plenty of shop and warehouse slabs that have been through more than one old coating, plus newer buildings where the concrete hasn't settled in yet. We handle both by checking what's under the floor before we quote, and we run into the same mix on jobs in Morgan Hill and Hollister.
Questions about urethane cement floors in Gilroy
How much does urethane cement flooring cost in Gilroy, CA?
The price comes down to the size of the room, how much prep the slab needs and which texture and topcoat you choose, so I can't give a fair number until I've seen the floor. Cracks to repair, an old coating to remove and a topcoat for a sunny area all add to the job. The written estimate spells out each step so you can see what each one costs.
How long does urethane cement flooring take to cure before we can use the room?
One maker's datasheet allows light foot traffic after 12 hours, light wheel traffic after 24 hours and full cure in 7 days, tested at 72°F. Cooler temperatures can slow that down, so plan on keeping forklifts and heavy carts off until it's fully cured. We'll tell you when the floor is ready for what.
Will cracks in my concrete show through a urethane cement floor?
They can. One maker says moving joints and cracks in the concrete may show through the finished floor, and a new slab that's still shrinking, moving or cracking will show that too. That's why I point them out before you choose anything, so you know which lines you'll still see.
Does urethane cement flooring need a topcoat if it gets sun?
Yes, if sunlight reaches the floor. One maker says its urethane cement isn't UV stable and will discolor unless it's topcoated with a UV-stable coating, so a floor by a big roll-up door or a window needs that topcoat to keep its color. It's one reason I ask about sun before we pick anything.
What textures and finishes can I choose for urethane cement flooring?
You can go anywhere from smooth to highly textured, and one maker offers its floors in matte or gloss, so the finish can match how much slip resistance the room needs. Pick by grip first and shine second, since a glossy floor people slip on doesn't help anybody.
How do I know if my concrete is ready for urethane cement flooring?
Two checks come first, a moisture test and, on new concrete, enough cure time. One maker's datasheet says the slab must be tested for moisture vapor transmission, meaning how much dampness is working up through the concrete, before any coating goes on, and another maker says new concrete should cure at least 14 days and reach a minimum strength first. If your slab isn't ready yet, I'll tell you.
Other concrete floors to consider for your space
Polished Concrete Flooring
When the room gets foot traffic more than forklifts, polishing the slab itself gives you a hard, glossy floor with no coating on top to wear through.
Stained Concrete Flooring
If you like the concrete you have and just want color, staining works into the surface so a showroom, office or patio gets a warmer look.
